From Scientist to Writer: Navigating Career Changes

Changing careers is never easy. And change itself can be extremely scary. But, when you have a calling, you have to take the opportunity. Being a chemist then going into an inventory control role was an easy transition for me, but I knew that this was not where my life was supposed to end. The magic of storytelling is in my heart and that has led me to my Masters of Art in Professional Writing. Let me take you through my journey of being a scientist to the open realm of imagination and storytelling.

With my Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, I embarked on a career path as a laboratory chemist for a medical company. For a few years, I took fulfillment in knowledge and discovery in the scientific realm. I then transitioned into a scientific inventory control specialist position that challenged me. However, I always contained the passion for literature and storytelling. Like the elements of the periodic table, my aspirations combined and reacted, rising me to my new journey navigating from scientist to writer.

New Beginnings are Challenging

Career changes are hard no matter if it’s from Chemist to Author or something different to another, there will be challenges that need to be overcome and areas of improvement will need to be made. Knowing our strengths and weaknesses will help with any type of career change. Having purpose and intention will help ease the transition, which is why leaving the world of science and moving to literature is easy for me. My passion for writing and sharing my stories gives my life value. Having growth and development on our side it is a crucial component to embrace the challenges and setbacks that we might encounter during these changes.

As we stand at the crossroads of change, let us remember that we are not alone on this journey. No matter what career change we are seeking we are all part of a vast community of change, navigating to our own path. So, let’s strive on forward with confidence and conviction and let change become a part of us. This will create a future that is only limited by our imaginations.
